We are all very visual people, and the more we associate expressions with a picture, the better we learn!!
  • This is a tremendous and inexpensive learning resource for students!!
  • Students learn a great deal just by reading signs which the teacher hangs on the wall or bulletin board. They are motivated to find out what the expression means by looking at the picture.
  • There are a total of 100 color picture signs illustrating simple phrases as well as idiomatic expressions to immediately download.
  • Teachers can also print these signs as transparencies.
  • There are five sets containing 20 signs apiece.
  • Each image is 8.5x11.
Each set is only $7.95!!
What a bargain!

WAYS TO USE:
  1. EXPAND! EXPAND! EXPAND!
  2. The teacher can personalize expressions with the students. For example:
    a. "I don't know." The teacher asks in which classes students might say this expression and why. Expand to "I am confused." "I don't understand." "It's too hard."
    b. "Clean up your room, or you're grounded." Students can vote on how many times they hear this expression per week/month. Are their rooms clean or messy? Do they get grounded for messy rooms?
  3. The teacher can hang up a few signs every week and have students guess what they mean before or during class.
  4. Students write as many words about the picture within a certain length of time.
  5. Students can describe what is happening in the picture. Also students can describe what happened before and/or after the event in the picture.
  6. Students can make up other expressions which could describe the picture.
  7. Students can use some expressions in other contexts. For example, the expression, "_____gets on my nerves." Students can say all of the things/people that get on their nerves and why.
  8. The teacher can teach words which are related to one of the key words. For example, the teacher can teach the words boring, boredom, bored, etc. from the expression "What a bore!".
  9. Students can give definitions, synonyms, or related words for certain words. For example, for the sign "coward," students can give words such as "cowardly," "weakling," "frightened". They can also give examples of a coward such as a soldier who runs away, a hit-and-run driver, a person who can't deal with things, etc. They can also give a definition of a coward.
  10. Students can give advice or commands to the subjects in the picture.
  11. Students can say what they would do if they were in this situation.
  12. Students can change the tense.
  13. Students can learn a grammatical form in certain expressions.
  14. Students can say other expressions or idioms using one of the key words from the expression. For example, the teacher works with the expression "I think so." Students can say "Think it over.", "Think up.", "Think well of.", etc.
  15. The teacher lines up several pictures and gives a situation. The students would have to pick the appropriate expression from one of the signs which they would say in this situation.
  16. Students use different words to fit into a particular expression. For example, the teacher teaches the expression "I have a good idea." They could change "good" to "excellent", "bad", "dumb", "brilliant", "better", etc.
  17. Students can write short stories or dialogues using the phrase or phrases.
  18. Students can give situations to illustrate the expression. For example, the expression is "I'm in trouble." The student says "I don't clean my room." "I get a bad grade." "I don't phone my parents."
